Why It Matters

The local congregation’s website might not be the most important part of their local work, but for most congregations, it is a woefully-neglected resource.

Put yourself in the place of people who are trying to find a church to visit. Unless they have previous experience with the church of Christ, they will probably type “church” into Google maps and look at websites for churches near them. They may be searching for a church family, classes for children, or an in-depth Bible study. Does your website tell them what your congregation can provide to meet their needs?

  • 88% of Americans regularly use the Internet and 77% use smartphones. Is your website easy to use on a phone? Half of your audience is viewing your site using their phone or tablet. If your congregation’s website doesn’t load quickly and is not easy-to-use on smaller screens, you are losing over half of your audience.
  • A recent survey revealed that 46% of people say a website’s design is their number one criterion for determining the credibility of an organization. In other words, websites that are poorly designed or hard to read on our devices cause people to mistrust the source of the website. We can teach the Truth with sincerity and love, but if your website doesn’t look good, many people will not believe it.
  • In 2012, 33% of those surveyed said the Internet was the first place they looked to learn about their church. How does your congregation’s website compare to the websites of other churches in your area? You have a fraction of a second to make a great first impression—make the most of it.

Free Website Overview

We recently had an article published in the Gospel Advocate that covers important aspects of your congregation’s website to reach both non-members and encourage members. If you are interested in improving your digital outreach, we would love to share it with you.

  • We'll send the article to this address, so make sure it's really you! Don't worry, we hate spam as much as you do, and we never share or sell your email address.
